Your Community Center Guide

At the Garab (pronounced "get up") Community Center (GCC), we believe in the power of community, culture, and opportunity. Founded to serve and empower Somali families in Minnesota, GCC is a dedicated, culturally rooted organization offering a full range of educational, health, employment, and support services under one welcoming roof. We exist to bridge the gaps caused by language barriers, limited access to resources, and systemic inequities—creating pathways for families to thrive with dignity and hope.

Our mission is to foster a more equitable and connected community by providing Somali individuals and families with the tools, support, and opportunities they need to build a brighter, healthier, and more sustainable future. We envision a world where Somali women, children, and youth can grow, learn, and lead—where cultural pride is celebrated, and where every family has the resources to thrive both personally and professionally.

GCC offers a wide range of programs tailored to the unique needs of our community, including childcare, after-school education, adult ESL classes, health and wellness workshops, job training, crisis support, and leadership development. We also provide safe spaces for cultural celebration, family support, and community dialogue. Every program we offer is rooted in cultural competency, community voice, and a deep commitment to empowering the next generation.

Community and Culture

GCC seeks to strengthen ties within the Somali community while fostering cross-cultural understanding and collaboration. By celebrating Somali heritage through cultural events, leadership training, and community engagement initiatives, GCC aims to build a sense of belonging and pride while promoting social cohesion.

Classes

GCC is dedicated to empowering Somali children, youth, and adults by providing access to high-quality educational resources. The center’s goal is to bridge educational gaps through programs such as after-school tutoring, STEM workshops, and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.
